Gerbase. begins with what’s left over, and transforms it into what will last. The studio seeks out non-virgin materials, unused by like-minded artisans around the world, and repurposes them through process-driven design to give them a new and extraordinary life.

Vintage Fabrics

As with all Gerbase. objects, found materials inspire the design. A limited number of pieces are created, bound by the finite amount of fabric in existence.

Cashmere.

100% vintage Cashmere sourced exclusively from long haired Cashmere goats from the Mongolian mountains and plains. In the spring their soft undercoat naturally begins to shed, and is then combed off the goat, this soft fibre is then used for the creation of the fabric. This raw material is a natural fibre and 100% biodegradable, crafted without the use of hazardous dyes.

Organic Cotton.

Gerbase. uses 100% organic cotton, which is made without using damaging pesticides, powerful chemical bleaches or dyes, and is both allergy-friendly and beneficial to biodiversity.

Organic Linen.

Our vintage Linen is sourced from a family run mill in Italy weaving quality fabrics since 1876. Today the 4th generation of the family continues in the tradition of fine tailoring fabric.

Linen is a natural fibre and one of the most future friendly. Having long fibres creates strength and durability for a long life, it is also antibacterial and naturally moth resistant. Linen is known to perform well and withstand high temperatures which is why it’s the fabric of choice for globetrotters, explorers and adventurers’.

The fabric wicks moisture (perspiration) away from the skin in exactly the same way as high performance sportswear does, with one major difference, it does so without holding bacteria. Linen improves with age as it becomes softer and softer and more pliable the more it is washed and worn. Our Linen is made from European ethically sourced flax plant fibres which are fully biodegradable.

Gerbase. Skins Innovations

Gerbase. Eucalyptus Bioyarn.

A semi-opaque technical yarn engineered for a soft and breathable seamless fit. Eucalyptus BioYarn has been formulated using a unique blend of lab tested botanical and botanically-derived ingredients for a fully functional and biodegradable garment. Eucalyptus BioYarn is composed of 60% Biodegradable PL, 40% Eucalyptus.

Our Eucalyptus yarn is produced using wood pulp exclusively of eucalyptus trees certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), and carries the Pan-European Forest Council (PEFC) quality seal. The only chemical used in the manufacturing process is the non-toxic solvent, amine oxide, that allows closed loop processing where up to 99% of the chemical is perpetually re-used, minimising the impact on the environment and conserving energy and water. The European Union (EU) awarded this process the Environmental Award 2000 in the category ‘technology for sustainable development’.

BioYarn Lab tested botanically derived ingredients for a fully biodegradable yarn. There are several advantages to the utilisation of biotechnology ingredients, which go beyond being identical to natural botanical counterparts, and can potentially exceed them in quality and performance. They do not have the carbon footprint associated with plant-derived ingredients.

Since these ingredients are produced in a lab, they avoid the massive drain on our limited resources. Endangered or short supply ingredients can be lab-created without impacting the world’s biodiversity. The making of our Biodegradable Yarn starts with botanical biomaterial which is fermented to produce lactic acid, which is then polymerised to polylactic acid (PLA).

Gerbase. SheerTech Yarn.

Gerbase. SheerTech yarn is our sheerest formulation – lab formulated synthetics repurposed from waste material into a unique featherweight yarn with a dry hand feel, engineered to fit like a second skin. SheerTech yarn is composed of 55% recycled Nylon, 45% recycled Polyester both certified to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, preventing the usage of harmful substances in production and dyeing of materials.
