The Small Nevado Container is a sculptural installation piece, handmade by artisans in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the traditional henequen technique using natural, untreated fibres. Henequen is a plant indigenous to Yucatán, discovered over 1,400 years ago by the Mayan people, who developed sophisticated weaving techniques used for everyday items, such as fabric, bags, hammocks, nets and ropes. These ancient techniques passed down over centuries through generations are still in use by expert craftsmen today. Henequen fibres are made by crushing the leaves of the Henequen plant, from which a strong fibre is extracted. No one fibre is the same due to the natural quality of the raw material, meaning each basket is unique.
The Small Woven Nevado Container measures 24.5cm in diameter and 38.8cm in height and is available in two sizes.
The limited edition pieces were sourced by Gerbase. exclusively for FOUND. a category of objects curated out of form and function and for life.
